Abstract

It has been known for many years that Gordon-Haus timing jitter1 imposes a fundamental limitation on long-haul soliton transmissions. Recently, it was recognized that timing jitter occurs with any transmission format2, including the non-return-to-zero (NRZ), chirped-return-to-zero (CRZ) and dispersion-managed-soliton (DMS) formats.
