Abstract

Since its initial proposal SLALOM (Semiconductor Laser Amplifier in a Loop Optical Mirror),1 also known as TOAD (Teraherz Optical Asymmetric Demultiplexer),2 has attracted a great interest as high speed switching device. This topology offers unique advantages such as low control pulse energy and compactness, no dispersion and no walk-off. Operation as wavelength converter requires careful positioning of the SOA near the loop center,3 to obtain steep and short switching windows, desirable for high-speed WDM telecom signals.
