Abstract

The main problem limiting today the field of application of multi-terawatts femtosecond lasers in laser-matter experiments is the level of Amplified Spontaneous Emission (ASE) which remains far above the ionization threshold of most materials (around 1010-1011 W/cm2). Typical values of the contrast in CPA laser chains lie between 105 and 107 and peak intensities reach now 1020 to 1021 W/cm2.
