Abstract

Polarization dependent gain (PDG) in erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) leads to performance degradations in systems with cascaded amplifiers.1,2 PDG characterizations are difficult since in a single, typical EDFA PDG is on the order of 0.1 dB and depends on Polarization Dependence Loss (PDL) of its components.
