Abstract
Laser radiation of high power and good beam quality in the 1.44-μm wavelength range is required for medical applications in surgery.1 Continuous wave laser output of up to 4.9 W at 1.44 μm was demonstrated recently from a longitudinally diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser.2
