CW passive mode-locking evolved from Q-switched mode-locking in erbium doped fiber lasers

Abstract

Q-switched mode locking often presents an obstacle to self-starting, passive, CW mode-locking, especially for lasers employing a gain medium with a long life-time1 as in the case of erbium-doped fiber lasers.
