Abstract

Work with rare-earth-doped optical fiber lasers and amplifiers dates back to the early 1960s and since then there has been much work done in the area of fiber lasers and amplifiers, with emission wavelengths ranging from 381 nm to 3950 nm, and with cw output powers up to several Watts.
