Abstract
Wavelength conversion is a function likely to be incorporated in future wave length-division multiplexed based networks as it can increase network efficiency by overcoming wavelength contention, simplifying network management (wavelengths can be assigned on a local rather than a global level), and providing the ability to achieve fast link restoration.1
