Abstract

We present direct measurements of PBG resonances in submicron waveguides at optical frequencies. Cavities with Q’s of 250 at λ=1.564 μm are measured in PBG structures integrated into Si/SiO2 strip waveguides. The modal volumes, 0.25 μm3, are the smallest achieved in any microcavity device to date.
