Abstract
Certain applications such as atmospheric remote sensing require a compact, efficient, tunable UV source in the 300-nm region. One candidate laser for this requirement is Ce:LiSAF or Ce:LiCAF, optically pumped at 266 nm.1 Previously, experiments with these materials have been under low-power, low-repetition- rate conditions. We have constructed a Ce:LiCAF laser, which operates at high repetition rate and moderate average power to test this material under more severe, device-oriented conditions.
