Abstract
Antiguided array lasers operate by resonant coupling of leaky modes due to large lateral effective index steps, the in-phase condition occurring when the interelement spacing is equal to an odd integral number of half-wavelengths. The resonance in-phase coupling condition is: (1)
where m is the number of interelement standing-wave peaks (which should be odd for the in-phase condition), λ is the laser emission wavelength, n0 is the effective refractive index of the antiguide region, d is the width of the antiguide region, n1 is the effective refractive index of the interelement region, and s is the width of the interelement region.
