Abstract

The "Super-ASHURA" KrF laser facility is under development for ICF research at the Electrotechnical Laboratory. An electron-beam (e-beam) pumped main amplifier, Amp4, and 12-beam transport optics are being added to the currently operating ASHURA system (660J, 6 beams).1 Temporally shaped and spatially smoothed pulses are to be amplified and focused on target (>5 kJ, 12 beams) incorporating the broadband random-phase (BRP) irradiation method.2
