Abstract
In view of the future application in long-distance and/or high-capacity fiber-based transmission systems, soliton sources seem to play a key role. The major drawback periodically amplified transmission systems is the amplifier spacing. This drawback leads to a lower limit on the generated pulse width. As a consequence, the maximum repetition rate achievable for a given pulse width has to be found.
