Abstract

Vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser diodes (VCSELs) show considerable potential as high-speed optical sources for use in fiber communications and optical computing systems. Optimization of the performance of these lasers for such applications requires a knowledge of device parameters such as differential gain and the linewidth-enhancement factor.
