Abstract

Passive Q-switching with solid-state saturable absorbers is economical, simple, and practical. In this paper we report passive Q-switching of the Tm,Cr:YAG, Cr:LiCAF, and Cr:Al2O3 (ruby) lasers by using Ho3+:YLiF4 (Ho:YLF), Cr4+:Y2SiO5 (Cr4t: YSO), and Dy2+:CaF2 solid-state saturable absorbers. The feasibility of Cr:BeAl2O4 (alexandrite) passive Q-switching with Cr4+:YSO is also investigated.
