Phase distortions in mismatched second-harmonic generation

Abstract

In second-harmonic generation (SHG), the residual fundamental beam acquires phase shifts due to cascaded χ(2) processes in the crystal the presence of a wave-vector mismatch (ΔK≠ 0).1,2 Recent Z-scan experiments and numerical models have confirmed these effects in KTP.2 One might then expect similar optical-phase distortions in the corresponding second harmonic, but simple theoretical models predicted none.1
