Abstract
Repeaterless transmission of high-speed signals over long distances has attracted considerable attention. Recently, repeaterless transmission of an externally modulated 2.5-Gbit/s signal over 410 km of non-dispersion shifted fiber (NDSF) has been demonstrated by introducing remotely pumped fiber amplifiers.1 However, for directly modulated 2.5-Gbit/s signals, wavelength chirping brings about a considerable amount of power penalty. Thus dispersion compensation techniques are required for transmission of over 200 km NDSF.2,3
