3-mm-wavelength free-electron laser with a novel wiggler

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The small period wigglers of recent years have been made attractive by the development of a compact free-electron laser (FEL). A new small-period wiggler constructed of bifilar helical sheets with ferromagnetic cores for the Raman FEL of the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics has been developed, and the performance characteristics of the wiggler with a 10-mm period and a 600mm length have been measured.
