Abstract

Quantum-well self-electro-optic-effect-devices (SEEDs) are a class of optoelectronic devices consisting of p-i-n optical modulator diodes with quantum-wells in the instrinsic-region, combined with optical-detection and possibly other electronic circuits. They have been used mostly in digital applications operating at a wavelength resonant with the zero-bias exciton. However, they can also be operated as analog devices at a wavelength longer than the zero-bias exciton.
