Abstract

Long haul communication systems at multigigabit/s rates need low chirp transmitters to minimize dispersion penalties. In this paper, direct ASK modulation of a laser is discussed using a method which overcomes many drawbacks of external modulation while providing good contrast and low chirp at high bit rates.
