Ongoing revolution in optical spectroscopy

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Recent advances in the capabilities of state-of-the-art array detectors offer exciting new frontiers for expioration. The latest generation of solid state detector arrays, including charge coupled devices (CCDs), charge injection devices (CIDS), and new hybrid devices, are becoming available in a variety of formats. The impact of these detectors on a number of spectroscopic techinques will be discussed. Several applications for improved chemical analysis, including rapid scan, fluorescent and atomic spectroscopy, will be presented as applications to describe a variety of design and software considerations.
