Seeding of a Ti:Al2O3 laser by a vertical- cavity surface-emitting-laser in the nanosecond range

Abstract

We present here an original application of a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VC- SEL). We used the laser emission of such a microcavity to realize the injection-locking (seeding) of a Ti:Al2O3 laser cavity. Both were synchronously pumped by the same frequency-doubled nanosecond Nd:YAG laser (532 nm, 10 ns). Instead of building up from noise, the laser emission in the main cavity constructs itself on the basis of the photons provided by the injection signal.1
