Optical parametric oscillator threshold reduction via intracavity laser seeding

Abstract

Recent advances in the field of nonlinear crystals have sparked new interest in the pulsed OPO as an effective way to frequency shift laser radiation. While pumping with a Q-switched source makes it easy to reach the threshold for oscillation in the OPO, the intracavity field buildup time prevents efficient use of the available pump energy. In this paper, we describe a new method for reducing the buildup time of an SRO by using a diode-pumped laser inside the SRO as a seed source.
