Abstract

Gain-switched operation of an all solid-state laser based on cerium-doped LiSrAIF6 (Ce3+:LISAF) is reported. Utilizing a transverse pumping geometry, output energies of 1.3 mJ have been obtained at a peak wavelength of 290 nm, with slope efficiencies of approximately 15%. In addition, continuous tunability of this laser from 285 to 297 nm has been achieved. Optical pumping of the Ce3+:LISAF laser is accomplished using the fourth harmonic of a Q- switched Nd:YAG laser (266 nm).
