Abstract

The pulse repetition rates of modelocked fiber lasers employing erbium-doped fiber gain are typically 100 MHz or less. For many applications, higher repetition rates are required. One possibility is to generate multiple pulses in the cavity. However, because of the long relaxation time of erbium, the pulse intensities in the cavity fluctuate from pulse to pulse.
