Phase Control in Chirped Pulse Amplification for Production of High Fidelity Optical Pulses

Abstract

Current laser systems which employ chirped pulse amplification (CPA) fail to obtain perfect pulse compression after amplification due to residual chirp on the compressed pulses.^ This residual chirp originates from a mismatch of the stretcher and compressor phase functions. Since a change in the compressor length is all that is needed to compensate for the second order (when Taylor expanded around the central frequency) phase shift of the amplifier material, the residual phase is predominantly third and fourth older.
