Abstract

Deep electro-optic phase modulation at a high frequency is useful in many fields such as ultrashort pulse generation and shaping, spectroscopy, frequency comb generation, and so on.1-3 In microwave range over 10 GHz, however, deep modulation is difficult because of velocity mismatch between modulation wave and light. To solve the problem, we developed a novel electrooptic modulator with periodic domain inversion for quasi velocity matching at a microwave frequency.
