Abstract

Wavelength-division-multiplexing (WDM) offers an effective technique to transmit multiple optical signals at different wavelengths along a single fiber to increase the communication capacity. A holographic element is an angularly dispersive device which can be used in a dense WDM system.1 A transmission-type of substrate-mode holographic grating pair has been investigated to improve alignment sensitivity.2 However, the wavelength bandwidth of this device is limited. Therefore, here we present a reflection-type substrate-mode holographic grating pair to improve the bandwidth and also to increase the operation channel number.
