Abstract
Second-harmonic generation (SHG) in optical waveguides is very attractive because of the strong beam confinement over a long interaction length enabling achievement of high conversion efficiencies even on the laser diode power level. We report phase-matched second-harmonic generation in nonlinear optically active Langmuir-Biodgett (LB) film, waveguides, both by mode conversion and by use of the Cerenkov-type configuration. With the first technique, phase-matched frequency-doubling was observed in LB films of 2-docosylamino-5-nitropyridine (DCANP)1 by conversion of a fundamental TE0-mode into a second-harmonic TE1-mode.
