Abstract
KTP (KT1OPO4) is an established highly nonlinear material for second-harmonic generation (SHG) and frequency upconversion of IR lasers. The confinement of the light in a waveguide provides advantages to perform optical nonlinear applications in terms of higher power density and longer interaction length. In the past few years, waveguides have been produced in several nonlinear optical materials—LiNbO3 KNbO3, ß-BaB2O4, LiB3O5, and BaTiO3—by ion-implantation, and SHG has been successfully performed in ion implanted waveguides in the high nonlinear material KNbO3. We report here that SHG can also be achieved in He+-implanted KTP planar and channel waveguides, with a conversion efficiency up to 25%.
