Abstract

Optical feedback can significantly degrade the system performance of semiconductor lasers. The noise properties of the laser have been investigated for optical feedback levels typical of communications systems.1 Considerable effort has been given to studying the tum-on delay jitter that can also play an important role in determining the system performance.2 In this work these two effects are considered in conjunction for directly modulated semiconductor lasers.
