Abstract

Recent experiments in ultralong distance soliton transmission lines have revealed the possibility that solitons maintain their state of polarization over 10,000 km.1 An experimental demonstration2,3 of the passively mode- locked fiber soliton laser (PSL) based on nonlinear polarization rotation makes the exploitation of such types of laser in ultralong transmission lines very attractive.
