Abstract

The 5-flm band CO laser has been a potential candidate for the new industrial laser because of its excellent performance and valuable output wavelength. Various excitation schemes have been so far applied to obtain laser outputs ranging from multi- hundredwatt to multikilowatt with the closed flow operation. Such high power CO lasers have been recently applied to material processing such as cutting and surface treatment of metals,1,2 crystal growth,3 and energy transmission based on glass fibers.4
