Abstract

In a conventional regenerative amplifier, the maximum duration of the laser pulse to be amplified is limited to the optical transit time in the amplifier ring minus the transition time of the Pockels cell used to switch the pulse into and out of the amplifier. We describe an amplifier geometry that can employ passive polarization switching and an SBS phase conjuga tor to provide eight amplifier extraction passes.
