Abstract

High power picosecond lasers have great potential for ophthalmic microsnrgieal applications due to their reduced and well-localized damage zone. In this technique, microplasma, which is created by a focused picosecond laser pulse, ablates the tissue. The creation of the plasma is followed by shock wave and cavitation bubble generation. Since these secondary effects have a large impact on the surgical application of the laser, the knowledge of their dynamic behavior has great importance.
