Abstract

Passive mode-locking using an anti-resonant Fabry-Perot saturable absorber (A-FPSA) was previously demonstrated1 using Ti:sapphire to end-pump the lasers. Diode-pumping will be required for any practical and widely utilized laser system. Here we demonstrate diode-pumped Nd:YAG and Nd:YLF lasers mode-locked with an intracavity A-FPSA. Extension of this technique to diode-pumping is nontrivial because of the lower unsaturated laser gain compared to Ti:sapphire pumping, which increases the mode-locking build-up time and the threshold for self-Q-switching.
