Influence of spherical aberration on the performance of high power Nd:YAG lasers

Abstract

In general, high power Nd:YAG lasers exhibit strong spherical aberration of the thermally induced lens—a result of the temperature dependence of thermal conductivity. The temperature difference between rod center and surface can be as high as 40°C resulting in a 15% lower thermal conductivity at the surface.
