Abstract

Bistable laser diodes (BLDs) are expected to be the key components in the future optical communication and switching systems.1 Polarization BLDs have received considerable attention because of their potential high-speed switching. We predicted theoretically the existence of pitch-fork bifurcation bistability which has a major speed advantage over conventional S-shaped bistability,2 and have experimentally demonstrated this pitch-fork bifurcation bistability.3
