Abstract

Bi12SiO20 (BSO) is a promising photorefractive material on account of its high speed1. But its rather small electro-optic coefficient was thought to preclude its use in holography and multiwave coupling amplification. Several researchers have proposed methods to improve its photorefraction, Miteva2 gave a detailed consideration of the influence of a number of factors such as beam intensity, preliminary illumination, external electric field. Refregier et al. and Dugin et al increased the photoretractive effect with moving grating and difference-frequency beams.3,4 In this paper we report the increased holographic recording characteristics and energy transfer in two-wave mixing in doped BSO crystals.
