Abstract

Quantum well self electro-optic effect devices (SEEDs)1 are one of the leading candidates for use in optica) signai processing demonstration systems. In many SEEDs, such as the symmetric SEED (S-SEED), 2 one of the QW diodes will generally have a low electric field across it. That is unfortunate, because the carrier escape times increase as the electric field across the QW region is reduced.3
