Abstract

Organic nonlinear crystals such as chalcone have become of major interest lately because of its properties; however, it is difficult to get optical surfaces on organic crystals, so that there is a lack of optical information about such crystals. There are no good results on the polishing of chalcone. We reported a special new grinding technology for making optical surfaces on chalcone. The best surface roughness of 4.29 nm rms, 29.8-nm Rmax has been obtained, using an ultraprecision surface grinder; however, the surface is not an optical surface.
