Abstract

The phenomenon of spatial hole burning (SHB) in distributed feedback (DFB) lasers is integral to understanding laser output characteristics such as frequency chirp and light-current linearity.1-2 Ketelsen et al., measured the longitudinal variation of the carrier density at different dc bras currents, and correlated it to the side-mode suppression ratio.3 We present what we believe to be the first direct measurements of carrier density modulation in response to an rf drive current.
