Abstract

The pulsed Ho:YAG laser has recently generated interest in the medical laser community because of the relatively high tissue absorption at its wavelength (2,1 μm) and the availability of flexible low OH silica fibers for laser beam delivery. Investigation of the Ho:YAG laser for a number of medical procedures, such as angioplasty and ophthalmology, has revealed the generation of pressure waves in tissue during ablation.
