Abstract

KTiOAsO4 (KTA) single crystals, grown from a tungstate solvent by spontaneous nucleation, have been reported to have electro-optic coefficients and a nonlinear optic figure of merit larger than KTiOPO4 (KTP) by 30 and 60%, respectively.1 Many of the spontaneously nucleated crystals had domain walls, and only single domain samples were used for the measurements reported. Seeded crystal growth by the high temperature solution method (HTS) was recently reported; however, no mention was made of a domain structure in these crystals.2
