Abstract

Recently, several experimental investigations have been conducted regarding nonlinear effects in some thousand kilo meter long optical repeater systems, using coherent transmission technology.1,2 These reported experiments used dispersion- shifted fiber. However, considering the application of this technology to the highly dispersive transmission line, which is mostly used in the installed long-span trunk system, the effect of modulations instability may cause serious problems.3 This paper proposes a novel compensation method for the modulational instability effect in CPFSK coherent optical repeater transmission systems.
