Abstract
Propagation of incoherent pulses in optical fibers has had much attention in the last few years owing to the viability of generating optical solitons. With proper power, an incoherent pulse may evolve to a soliton through propagation in the anomalous dispersive regime of a single mode fiber.1 Synchronous Raman amplification of incoherent pulses also gave rise to soliton formation in an optical fiber.2 Self-phase modulation of incoherent light propagating in a zero dispersion Kerr medium, has recently been theoretically analyzed.3 The major features of the theoretical results in Ref. 3 are both coherence time shortening and spectral broadening due to the nonlinearity.
