Abstract

One of the potentially important technological applications of wide-gap II-VI compound semiconductor superlattices and quantum wells are lasers and other nonlinear optical devices bluegreen wavelengths (λ ≤ 5000 Å). Optical pumping techniques are an important means of evaluating the intrinsic and extrinsic quality of these materials for laser applications. Electron beam and photopumping have been shown to yield room temperature pulsed operation at blue-green wavelengths in ZnSe/Zn(Se,S)1 and (Zn,Cd)Se/ZnSe2 multiple quantum wells (MQW), respectively.
