Electron-hole competition and limited photorefractive gain in InP:Fe

Abstract

Recent studies at room temperature have suggested that electron-hole competition limits photorefractive gain in InP:Fe because of the excited state of Fe2+.1 We have observed strong competition between electrons and holes related to a deep level, 300 meV below the conduction band. The electron-hole competition significantly reduces the photorefractive gain and changes the direction of energy coupling between two beams as the sample is cooled below 240 K.
