Abstract

Proton exchange in LiNbO3 is attractive for fabrication of guided-wave photonic devices. For applications such as nonlinear frequency conversion, anealed proton-exchanged (APE) waveguides have a distinct advantage over their titanium-indiffused counterparts because of their higher photorefractive damage threshold.1 It has been reported2 that stable, low-loss waveguides with restored electro-optic coefficients can be obtained by annealing the proton-exchanged guides. We have shown3 that second-harmonic generation (SHG) coefficients can also be restored by annealing.3
