Abstract

High purity synthetic fused silica is the most frequently used material for UV optics as windows, lenses, and fibers. Its high power UV performance is strongly affected by the density of intrinsic color centers which can be generated by irradiation with particles and high energy photons (hv ≥ 4 eV).
